GoUpstate: Spartanburg Regional begins upgrades with ER renovation

Spartanburg Regional

By Bob Montgomery, Spartanburg Herald Journal

Spartanburg Medical Center has begun renovating space above its emergency room, part of the first phase of Spartanburg Regional Health System's 10-year, $500 million project to modernize facilities.

“Our master plan is driven by the need of this campus to become user-friendly,” said Philip Feisal, president of Spartanburg Medical Center. “We feel we can do a better job of putting our facilities where they need to be.”

Overall, the project involves moving physician offices and inpatient and outpatient beds from outdated areas of the hospital campus to new areas. The original 1921 hospital also will be demolished in a few years and a new entrance facing Church Street will be built.
