HOW TO OBTAIN A MOBILE HOME PERMIT
COUNTY OF SPARTANBURG

If you are here to obtain a mobile home permit you will need to:
Go to Addressing to obtain or verify your address at the location you wish to place your home, if you do not know it.

Are you buying the mobile home from a dealer?
You will need a bill of sale from the dealership.

Are you buying the mobile home form an individual?
You will need to have a bill of sale and a form 400 or clear title and the name of the previous taxpayer.

Is there an existing septic tank?
If not you will need to make an application for a septic system.
The fee for the septic tank application is $150.00.

Is public sewer available to your home site?
If public sewer is available, you need a letter from the appropriate sewer district serving you.

After approval for the septic tank or public sewer, you will be issued a mobile home moving permit and requirements for placement and setup of the mobile home. These instructions also give you the guidelines for the items to be completed prior to requesting an electrical inspection.

If you are not the person whose name is on the Bill of Sale or Title, you will need a notarized statement from the owner of the mobile home giving you permission to obtain the mobile home permit.

Moving out of the County?
If you are moving a mobile home out of the County, then all taxes will have to be paid prior to issuing a moving permit. The clerk will send you to the Assessor’s Office, Auditor’s Office, Treasurer's Office and Delinquent Tax Office before a moving permit can be issued. A notarized statement from the mobile home owner is required if someone other than the owner is obtaining the permit.

Moving into the County?
If you are moving the mobile home from another county into Spartanburg you will need to have a Bill of Sale or a Title and a moving permit form the county the mobile home is leaving. No mobile homes constructed prior to 1976 may be moved into the County unless it meets the June 1976 HUD requirements.

How do I get an inspection?
When you obtain the mobile home permit, the clerk will explain to you how to call for inspection. 864-596-3160
