Economic Recruitment and Development Committee

The Economic Recruitment and Development Committee of Spartanburg County Council met on May 15, 2000, in Conference Room Two of the County Administrative Office Building. The following were in attendance: Honorable David Britt, Chairman; Honorables Frank Nutt and Ken Huckaby, Committee members; along with the Honorables Karen Floyd, Jeff Horton, Johnnye Code Stewart, and Rock Adams, Council Members. Also in attendance were Mr. James K. Hartmann, County Administrator; Mr. Bill Dennis, Deputy County Administrator; Mr. Glenn Breed, Assistant County Administrator; and Mr. Edwin Haskell, Assistant County Attorney.

In compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, notice of this meeting was provided in advance to local news media and other interested parties.

  1. Mr. Wade Jones, Attorney with the McNair Law Firm, appeared regarding a proposed Resolution authorizing the execution and delivery of an inducement agreement by and between Spartanburg County, SC, and Alcoa Fujikura Ltd., whereby under certain conditions, Spartanburg County will execute a lease agreement(s) for a project(s) involving not less than $19,000,000 investment. Alcoa Fujikura employs 525 people; the expansion will create 120 new jobs at $12 to $20 per hour. Motion by Mr. Nutt to recommend to full Council adoption of a resolution authorizing the execution and delivery of an inducement agreement by and between Spartanburg County, SC, and Alcoa Fujikura Ltd. Motion seconded by Mr. Huckaby and carried.
