Public Safety and Judiciary Committee

The Public Safety and Judiciary Committee of Spartanburg County Council met on Monday, May 15, 2000, in Conference Room Two of the County Administrative Office Building. The following were in attendance: Honorable Rock Adams, Chairman; Honorables Ken Huckaby and Frank Nutt, Committee members; along with the Honorables Karen Floyd, Johnnye Code Stewart, David Britt, and Jeff Horton, Council Members. Also in attendance were Mr. James K. Hartmann, County Administrator; Mr. Bill Dennis, Deputy County Administrator; Mr. Glenn Breed Assistant County Administrator; and Mr. Edwin Haskell, Assistant County Attorney.

In compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, notice of this meeting was provided in advance to local news media and other interested parties.

    1. Information was received regarding proposed revisions to the Noise Ordinance. The changes will require that applicants for special exclusion from the Ordinance run a public notice prior to making application. Motion by Mr. Huckaby to recommend to full Council first reading of the revised Noise Ordinance. Motion seconded by Mr. Nutt and carried.
    2. Mr. John Featherston, Jr., of Greenfield Excursion Music Camp appeared to request a permit for special public event exclusion from the noise ordinance. Mr. Featherston provided a copy of the newspaper advertisement notifying the public of his request. The dates of the events are May 13, June 3, June 17, September 9, September 30, and October 21. Motion by Mr. Nutt to recommend to full Council that a permit for special public event exclusion from the noise ordinance be issued to Mr. John Featherston, Jr. of Greenfield Excursion Music Camp for the above-listed dates. Motion seconded by Mr. Huckaby and carried.
    3. Information was received regarding activities of the Building Codes Department.
