Public Works, Buildings and Grounds

The Public Works, Buildings and Grounds Committee of Spartanburg County Council met on Monday, August 21, 2000, in Conference Room Two of the County Administrative Office Building. In compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, notice of this meeting was provided in advance to the local news media and other interested parties. The following were in attendance: Honorable Frank Nutt, Chairman; Honorables Jeff Horton and Rock Adams, Committee Members; along with Karen Floyd, David Britt, Johnnye Code Stewart, and Ken Huckaby, Council members. Also in attendance were James K. Hartmann, County Administrator; Bill Dennis, Deputy County Administrator; Glenn Breed, Assistant County Administrator; and Billy Smith, Assistant County Attorney.
- Chairman Frank Nutt called the meeting to order.
- Information was received regarding the Wellford Community Center. The Center was formed in 1994 and they received a Charter from the state. This group provides food and clothing to help the needy. They are housed in the old high school in Wellford. District 5 deeded the property to the County in August of 1993. The County entered into a lease agreement with the City of Wellford for the old high school. The lease can be broken with 30 days written notice from either party. Once the County breaks the lease with the City of Wellford, it will be discussed whether the property will be leased directly to the Wellford Community Center, or if it will be sold. Motion by Mr. Horton to recommend to full Council that the lease agreement with the City of Wellford be terminated. Motion seconded by Mr. Adams and carried.
- Information was received about activities of the Public Works Department. No action taken.
