Recreation Committee
August 21, 2000
The Recreation Committee of Spartanburg County Council met on Monday, August 21, 2000, in Conference Room Two of the County Administrative Office Building. In compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, notice of this meeting was provided in advance to the local news media and other interested parties. The following were in attendance: Honorable Jeff Horton, Chairman; Honorables Johnnye Code Stewart and Rock Adams, Members; along with the Honorables Karen Floyd, David Britt, Ken Huckaby and Frank Nutt, Council members. Also in attendance were James K. Hartmann, County Administrator; Bill Dennis, Deputy County Administrator; Glenn Breed, Assistant County Administrator; and Billy Smith, Assistant County Attorney.
- Chairman Horton called the meeting to order.
- Mr. Jeff Caton appeared to provide information regarding a proposed lease renewal for District 7 Tennis Courts at Spartanburg High School. Mr. Caton stated that his office has been negotiating since 1998 to make a partnership with District 7. The courts are 25 years old and need to be raised and re-established. Cost is estimated at $200,000. Cost sharing is an option that is being discussed with District 7. Mr. Caton would like to consider this item in next year’s budget. Motion by Ms. Stewart to recommend to full Council that staff be authorized to continue with negotiations. Motion seconded by Mr. Adams and carried.

- Mr. Jeff Caton provided a progress report on the Cleveland Park Renovation. The design is complete. The Fund Raising Committee will be meeting during the next week and updated figures will be available. No action taken.
