The fixed route transit system in Spartanburg County is provided by SPARTA which operates primarily within the City of Spartanburg. SPARTA has been in operation since 1992 when the City of Spartanburg acquired the transit system from Duke Power Company.The City immediately set out to replace the twenty- plus year-old buses that they inherited from Duke Power. Today SPARTA has eleven (11) buses and operates eight routes. The routes include: Westgate, Hillcrest, South Church Street, North Church Street, Spartanburg Tech, Crestview, South Liberty Street, and Dorman Centre. Efforts are currently underway to provide covered bus stops throughout the City. Annual ridership on the system is 600,000 plus passengers. The Spartanburg County
Transportation Service Bureau

The Spartanburg County Transportation Service Bureau provides door to door services to residents of Spartanburg County. Transit dependent people now have access to physician offices, hospitals, health and human service agencies, places of employment, job training sites, grocery stores, shopping facilities, educational, institutions and entertainment and recreational activities. Transportation Service Bureau vans and buses provide service throughout Spartanburg County.
Handicapped and Elderly Services
Special services are available to people with handicaps and the elderly. Our vehicles can accommodate wheelchairs. Personalized service is provided by our trained drivers, all of whom are medically trained technicians. All vehicles are air conditioned and radio equipped.
 
Dial-A-Ride
Individuals can obtain Bureau services through our Dial-A-Ride program. Dial-A-Ride is a door to door service available to anyone residing in Spartanburg County. A reasonable fee payable at the time of service (see Transit Fare Map) is charged and a previous day reservation by 10:00 am is required for next day service. Services Available to
Agencies and Businesses Alike

Agencies, businesses and institutions can secure services for their clients and employees through a contract with the Bureau. Fees are based on passenger miles and a voucher program is offered. Contracts are currently in effect with a variety of agencies and businesses. Give us a call at (864) 560-4118 to talk with our transit coordinator. The TSB currently has a fleet of thirty-five vans and buses which are operated by the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. Ridership is approximately 135,000 passengers annually.
