Effective July 1, 2006 the Spartanburg County Parks & Recreation Department became the Spartanburg County Parks & Recreation Commission. It is now a Special Tax District which encompasses residents who live in the unincorporated areas of Spartanburg County.
 
Members of the Commission Board of Trustees are appointed by the Spartanburg County Council. They will serve in rotating terms of four, three or two years.
