INMAN MAN RECEIVES 30-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR LEWD ACTS ON TWO CHILDREN

An Inman man received a 30-year prison sentence today after he admitted to inappropriately touching two young children on several occasions.

Terry R. Crocker, 51, of Inman, pleaded guilty to four counts of lewd act on a child. The guilty plea was straight up with no negotiation or recommendation from prosecutors.

Circuit Judge Ned Miller issued four 10-year sentences. One of the 10-year sentences was suspended to five years of probation. Crocker will have to complete counseling and enroll on the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry when he is released from prison.

The incidents occurred between Jan. 1, 1987 and Dec. 31, 1991 at a Lake Bowen-area home. The victims reported the allegation to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office in December 1999. Deputies substantiated the claims through interviews with Crocker and the two victims who were between 10-12 years old at the time of the crimes. The victims, a boy and a girl, described the incidents in detail for investigators. Crocker told deputies he was only guilty of trying to teach sex education to the children.
