TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO 25-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR SPARTANBURG MAN A Spartanburg man received a 25-year prison sentence today after he was found guilty of carrying more than 10 grams of cocaine in his car during a police traffic stop. Blair M. Adams, 32, of 111 Pineneedle Drive, was convicted of trafficking cocaine at the conclusion of a bench trial before Circuit Judge Derham Cole. Adams will serve 85 percent of the prison sentence before he is released. The traffic stop occurred March 17, 2006 on Elliott Street near John B. White Sr. Boulevard. A Spartanburg Public Safety officer initiated the stop after he watched Adams’ 1996 Chevrolet Suburban turn on to Elliott Street from Overbrook Circle without using a turn signal. The officer request permission to search the car because Adams appeared nervous. Adams consented to the search the car and the officer found nearly 11.50 grams of cocaine in the center console of the vehicle and a cigarette box. The car also contained a set of digital scales and two cell phones. Adams had more than $1,200 cash in his possession, according to Assistant Solicitor Alex Stalvey. Adams’ prior criminal record included two drug convictions. |
