DUNCAN MAN RECEIVES LIFE PRISON SENTENCE FOR MURDER CONVICTION

A Duncan man received a life prison sentence today for shooting a Greer man to death and seriously injured a second shooting victim.

A jury found David Roy Lynch, 29, guilty of murder, armed robbery and assault and battery with intent to kill at the conclusion of a three-day trial. Lynch (aka: Roy McDowell) will serve every day of Circuit Judge Derham Cole’s sentence. He is not eligible for parole.

Lynch shot 20-year-old Lee A. Evans to death on Dec. 30, 2004. Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputies found the body about 8:50 p.m. near the intersection of Sunny Glenn Drive and Amy Gray Street. Evans was lying in the roadway near a bullet-ridden Geo Prism. The fatal wound struck him in his back. Leon Young, of Greer, sustained arm and leg injuries in the flurry of gunfire that erupted.

During their investigation, Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputies determined that Evans was shot during a robbery where a cell phone and a ring were taken. The investigation also revealed that Young was a passing pedestrian who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Deputies arrested Lynch four months after the homicide in Laurinburg, NC. Lynch was one of five people charged in the case. Antwan D. Salters, 25, of Spartanburg, pleaded guilty to murder, armed robbery and assault and battery with intent to kill in November. He will be sentenced to a prison term of 30 years or more this week.

Accessory charges are still pending on David Anthony Weatherspoon, 29, of Greer; Margaret Alicia Lemke, 24, of Moore; and Jessica Nicole Holmes, 21, of Duncan.
