DUNCAN MAN RECEIVES 17-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR SEX ABUSE CASES

A Duncan foster parent received a 17-year prison sentence today for sexually abusing 5 children.

Michael Griffin, 35, pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and four counts of lewd act on a minor. The assaults occurred between April 1, 2002 and April 29, 2006 in the city limits of Duncan. The victims, who were between 9-17 years of age, described incidents in detail during forensic evaluations at the Children’s Advocacy Center. Three of the victims lived with Griffin when the assaults occurred. The other victims were friends of the foster children, according to Assistant Solicitor Susan Reese.

Griffin will serve 85 percent of Circuit Judge Roger Couch’s prison sentence before he is eligible for release. Griffin had no prior criminal record. Before he is released from prison, he will undergo screening to determine if he is a sexually violent predator. He will also have his name added to the sex offender registry.
