A Spartanburg teen received a life prison sentence today after he admitted to killing an elderly neighbor during an armed hold-up.

David Garrett, pleaded guilty to murder, armed robbery, and first-degree burglary for the May 30, 2007 death of Margaret Seay. Garrett is not eligible for parole or early release. He will serve every day of Circuit Judge Derham Cole’s prison sentence. Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputies found Seay inside her Huxley Street home with more than 40 stab and cuts wounds. In the hours following the attack, deputies found two of Ms. Seay’s purses inside the home of defendant. Deputies also caught Garrett in the neighborhood wearing clothes that were stained with Ms. Seay’s blood. He confessed to the crime in a post-arrest interview with deputies. He also told deputies where to find the blood-stained knife that was used in the crime.
