SPARTANBURG MAN RECEIVES 40-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR MURDER CONVICTION

A Spartanburg teen received a 40-year prison sentence today for shooting a person to death.

Shawn Miller, 19, was found guilty of murder and illegal possession of a weapon at the conclusion of a two-day jury trial. Miller shot Chris Blount, 30, on Oct. 24, 2007 at a Rookard Court home. Blount died 19 days later as a result of multi-organ failure.

Two witnesses to the crime testified that Miller was the trigger man. Assistant Solicitor Ryan McCarty relied on testimony from a SLED firearms expert Ira Parnell and Dr. David Wren, the pathologist who performed the autopsy, to further his argument for a murder conviction.

McCarty teamed with Assistant Solicitor Lauren Barnwell to prosecute the case.

Miller will serve every day of the prison sentence. He is not eligible for parole.
