GAFFNEY MAN RECEIVES 20-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR DOMESTIC-RELATED ASSAULTS

A Gaffney man received a 20-year prison sentence today for two domestic-related assaults.

Terry Wood, Sr., 49, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and battery with intent to kill, two counts of assault with intent to kill and discharging a firearm into a dwelling. The first incident occurred July 13, 2008 when he fired three shotgun blasts into the West Buford Street home of his ex-wife, Sandra Wood, 46. Willie Dean Linder, 47, and his 8-year-old son were in the house when the shooting occurred. Ms. Wood sustained an eye injury when she was hit by the pieces of broken glass.

The second incident occurred Feb. 8, 2009 when he fired three shotgun blasts at Sandra Wood while she drove a Chevrolet Blazer on Holmes Street. Sandra Wood sustained a gunshot wound to her upper back. The back window of the vehicle was blown out. Sandra Wood told Gaffney police she was stopped at a stop sign when Terry Wood Sr. started shooting at her from another vehicle.

Terry Wood Sr. will serve 85 percent of Circuit Judge Roger Couch’s prison sentence before he is eligible for release.

“Terry Wood will have plenty of time behind bars to think about the consequences of his pathetic actions,” Assistant Solicitor Michael Morin said. “He totally disregarded the safety of others with his reckless actions.”
