STOMPING DEATH LEADS TO LIFE PRISON SENTENCE FOR CAMPOBELLO MAN A Campobello man received a Life prison sentence today after a Spartanburg County jury decided that he stomped a person to death. Ronnie Lee Cash, 35, was found guilty of murder at the conclusion of a three-day trial before Circuit Judge James W. Johnson Jr. Cash beat and kicked Gerald Sams, 47, of Maryville, Tenn. to death in the early morning hours of Sept. 20, 2003. The altercation occurred on the frontage road near the intersection of Highway 11 and I-26. An eyewitness to the altercation reported that she was awakened by the sounds of a struggle going on outside of her residence. The witness saw Cash repeatedly kick and beat Sams. Cash then drug the lifeless body to his car and drove away from the crime scene. A Herald-Journal newspaper carrier found the victim’s body minutes later next to the dumpsters in a Li’l Cricket parking lot on Highway 11. Cash will have to serve every day of the prison sentence. |
