Transportation of Veterans
The transportation of Veterans to medical appointments is the responsibility of the Veteran. There are several means for a Disabled Veteran to achieve transportation to his/her appointments at a VA Facility; the major means of transportation are as follows:
- Veteran, family member or friend.
- Call the County Veterans Affairs Office at least 2 working days in advance of the requested travel day (864) 596-2553 or 2554.
- Call the Disabled American Veteran (Chapter 3) Office (864) 503-5897 or the transportation coordinator’s cell phone (864) 680-2719 at least 2 working days in advance of the requested travel day.
- Call the Spartanburg Regional Transportation Office (864) 560-4118 for “A dollar Ride” fee base rate.
- Call a taxi at a taxi fee rate.
The Spartanburg County Veterans Affairs Office and the Spartanburg County Planning and Development Department requested Federal/State Grant funds in conjunction with County Budgeted dollars to provide payment to the Spartanburg Regional Transportation/County Transportation for the support of our Disabled Veterans. A Disabled Veteran may request with the DAV or the Spartanburg Regional Transportation via my office.
* A word of caution must be observed. If a Veteran uses the Spartanburg Regional Transportation or the DAV at no cost to the Veteran, the Veteran cannot legally request travel funds from the Dept of the VA. That action is an act of fraud and is being closely monitored by the Dept of the VA. Daily lists of Veteran riders are provided to the respective VA Medical Centers. |
