To plan comprehensively for the orderly growth and harmonious development of Spartanburg County.
Growth management coordination, land use planning, infrastructure planning, transportation planning, and GIS land base mapping are all components of the County's Planning program in support of this mission.
In addition to staffing the Spartanburg County Planning and Development Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals, the Planning Staff also helps coordinate the activities of the SPATS Policy Committee and the County Water and Sewer Advisory Committee.
Area Performance Planning
New Subdivision Regulations became effective countywide on January 1, 2020, along with the Performance Zoning Ordinance (PZO) which currently covers only the Southwest Planning Area. The design standards and sign regulations found in the PZO will now be effective countywide. The Unified Land Management Ordinance (ULMO) remains in effect in the remainder of the County.
