This event will take place on April 6, 7, and 8th.
It will last from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 6th and 7th, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on April 8th. You only have to attend one of the three days.
The program will be held in the lower level of the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium (385 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303).
Spartanburg County currently has about 460 active bench warrants for people who are in violation of their child support payment plans.
If you've fallen behind on child support payments and you attend the event, you will NOT be arrested, and your warrant will be lifted. We believe your willingness to attend shows initiative, and we believe in giving folks a second chance.
In an additional effort to increase attendance, we have asked the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office to suspend child support bench warrants for these three days in April.
Citizens who choose to participate in this program will speak with County representatives who will then take each case to our Family Court judges for review. The judges will then sign orders on a case-by-case basis. We are hopeful that we can work out a payment plan that suits each individual's situation.
We will also have legal aid, several staffing agencies, and the Upstate Fatherhood Coalition on-site for individuals who may be seeking employment.
We encourage citizens to take advantage of this opportunity to negotiate their child support arrears balance and get back on the right track.
You do not have to make an appointment to participate.
Again, please keep in mind that this amnesty only applies to child support bench warrants.
