GoUpstate: New Park Opens in Spartanburg County

New Park

By Chris Lavender, Spartanburg Herald Journal

A new park is offering Spartanburg County residents another place for recreational activities.

Construction on Holston Creek Park at 7561 New Cut Road, Inman, was completed in March. Spartanburg County Councilman Bob Walker, whose district includes the park, will help celebrate the opening by throwing the ceremonial first pitch at an Inman Youth Association baseball game at 9 a.m. Saturday.

"We are excited and pleased that we got it completed," Walker said.

Construction on the $1.8 million project began in April 2015 on 25 acres of a 150-acre former peach orchard purchased by the county in 2000. Existing trails and farm roads on the property were used to develop a more extensive trail system linking areas of the park.

The park includes two baseball fields, a multipurpose field for soccer and football, a picnic shelter, a handicapped-accessible playground, restrooms and a 150-vehicle parking area. Construction on a 27-hole disc golf course should be completed by April 30, according to Mike Nation, Spartanburg County Parks Department project manager. It will be the fourth disc golf course in the county.
