Rite Aid Corp. on Wednesday officially opened its new $90 million Spartanburg County distribution center that is designed to get its products to 1,000 stores in the Southeast more quickly and efficiently. The opening comes one year after ground was broken for the 900,000-square-foot steel building, which sits on 97 acres near Interstate 85 between Highways 9 and 221 and in proximity to the S.C. Inland Port. S.C. Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt said the Pennsylvania-based drugstore chain will add 600 jobs at Johnson Development Associate Inc.’s Flatwood Industrial Park. Spartanburg County Councilman David Britt also attended. He said since 1990, there has been $16 billion worth of investment and 41,000 jobs created in the county. “We know who lays the golden egg — business and industry,” Britt said.
